ABOUT-INTRO

Lizz Wright

Lizz Wright caught my attention first at Myspace, and then as I poked around I found evidence of her work on this tribute to Queen Nina Simone in "Sing The Truth" a musical tribute to Nina Simone by a range of "next generation" musical thinkers including Floetry, Tracey Chapman and Lizz Wright.

Toni Morrison said of Nina Simone at that event, "She saved our lives" in reminiscing on how Nina Simone's "lacerating honesty" resuscitates us and keep us whole (to this day).

Wright is not commonly associated with activism, but her participation there along with her history of background work with the likes of Cassandra Wilson and Me'Shell N'degeocello - two very deliberate women - are revolutionary acts in and of themselves.

Salt

Lyrics, "SALT"

(The Motivational Lyrics)

How can you lose your song

When you've sung it so long

How can you forget your dance

When that dance is all you've ever had

It must be true

You can't separate the two

It's impossible to do

Just like the salt in the stew

It's all a part of you

One thing life can't do

It can't take your song from you
